In an early announcement to retailers, Universal Studios has slated ‘Cape Fear’ for a Blu-ray release on October 18.

Martin Scorsese’s 1991 remake about a family terrorized by a convicted rapist released from prison was nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actress (Juliette Lewis) and Best Actor (Robert De Niro).

The Blu-ray will have 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include: The Making of Cape Fear, Behind the Scenes of the Fourth of July Parade, On the Set of the Houseboat, Photograph Montage, Matte Painting, Opening Credits, and Blu-ray staples My Scenes/Pocket BLU App.

5-Second Films was created by Brian “Boss Man” Firenzi in the Spring of 2005, after being disappointed by so many 5,400-second films. The rules are simple: 2 seconds of beginning titles, 5 seconds of film, 1 second of end titles. If you take umbrage with these 5sfs running at an actual length of 8 seconds, we can only assume you’re no fun at dinner parties.

Lewis and Rennie join Josh Lucas who was previously announced to star as attorney Mitchell McDeere (the role originated by Tom Cruise in the film). The pilot episode will commence production in Toronto this August.

Lewis, am Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominated actress, will play Tammy, Mitch’s feisty, sexy receptionist, whose work life is made all the more tumultuous by her on-again, off-again relationship with Mitch’s brother, Ray. With a personality as arresting as her ever-changing hair color, Tammy is leery when Mitch accepts a deal to partner with a top law practice, as she’s not cut out for the conservative culture of a white shoe firm.

Based on the blockbuster feature film and the best-selling novel of 1991 by world-renowned author Grisham (“The Pelican Brief,” “The Client”), “The Firm” continues the story of attorney Mitchell McDeere (Lucas) who, as a young associate, brought down the prestigious Memphis law firm of Bendini, Lambert & Locke, which operated as a front for the Chicago mob. After a difficult decade, McDeere and his family now emerge from isolation to reclaim their lives and their future — only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere.

Fifteen years ago the actress I am meeting for lunch in a low-key Los Angeles café would have arrived followed by a trail of paparazzi.

Back then she ticked all the celebrity boxes: she’d dated Brad Pitt; been nominated for an Oscar when just 17; done time in rehab; become a Scientologist …

But no one spills their latte as Juliette Lewis parks her SUV across the street, scurries across four lanes of highway and then tosses her keys on the table, breathlessly apologising for being late.

In an industry where fame is often the paramount objective it is hard to name another actress who willingly jumped off the A-list bus, exchanging the glamorous red-carpet lifestyle to toil in semi-obscurity in pursuit of a private dream.

‘I’ve never really cared if I was famous for my music. It was just something I had to do,’ explains Lewis, 37.

For the past seven years she has been fronting a punk-rock outfit called Juliette and the Licks, performing angry, energetic songs with names like Junkyard Heart and Suicide Dive Bombers in front of double-figure crowds.

Spending months shuttling between tiny venues on a beaten-up tour bus is quite a contrast to the years of luxury trailers and million-dollar pay cheques.

When we meet, Lewis has just returned home to Los Angeles, not 24 hours after performing at a party in Paris. Far from being jet-lagged, she radiates nervous energy.

She talks so fast that sentences spill over each other, punctuated by throaty laughter so raucous it rattles the cups and plates on our table. Frequently she concludes her excited speeches with an exclamation of ‘that was a long-ass way of saying it!’
